Gavin Whitefield entered local government in 1976 following a 1½ year period working with the Exchequer and Audit Department of the Civil Service as an Assistant Auditor.
He worked for 13 years with Clydesdale District Council in Internal Audit, Computer Development and finally, Housing.
In 1989 he joined Motherwell District Council as Assistant Director of Housing responsible for finance and administration.
At local government reorganisation in 1996 he took up the position of Director of Housing with North Lanarkshire Council and in April 2000 was appointed Chief Executive with the same Council.
Gavin Whitefield is also the Clerk to the Lieutenancy for Lanarkshire and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and in November 2007 was elected Chair of SOLACE Scotland.
Married to Grace with 2 daughters 21 and 24
Hobbies: Playing 5-a-side football on a weekly basis and enjoys hillwalking.
