In 2003 George Black was appointed Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council, the largest local authority in Scotland.
Over the last few years Glasgow has taken forward a service reform and efficiency programme establishing a number of external arms length organisations dealing with building repairs and maintenance, culture and sport, community safety, and car parks management and development. Glasgow is also at an advanced stage of concluding a joint venture with the private sector partner for ICT and Property Management Services.
As Chief Executive George is a member of the Glasgow 2014 Strategic Group and Chair of the Glasgow 2014 City Planning Group.
Outside the Council, George is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the University of Glasgow.
