"People and their potential lie at the heart of our vision for Scotland and children in care deserve every opportunity to be part of a successful Scotland. The number of vulnerable young people under the care of local authorities is increasing, showing we are identifying those in need and getting them support and security. But I want to see an improvement across the board in outcomes for all young people because they deserve that commitment from all of us."
Adam Ingram MSP, Minister for Children and Early Years, Speaking at the launch of the new corporate parenting guidance, September 2008.
More than 14,000 children are looked after by local authorities in Scotland and there is ongoing debate over the provisions available for these children throughout the media, central and local government and within the care sector itself. This conference will examine these provisions, giving good practice examples from within Scotland as well as looking at approaches taken elsewhere to see if they can be successfully applied here to help address the disparities in health, education, offending and employment between looked after children and their peers.
Agenda as of 31 October 2008, subject to change.
