Stephen started his nursing career in 1978, he is a Registered Mental Health Nurse, and a Registered General Nurse. He has worked in Lanarkshire for most of his career to date in various types of mental health services, arriving at the State Hospital in 1994 as a Ward Manager, and been Nursing Director for the past 6 years. He was also the Security Director for one year prior to his current role.
Stephen has served as a General Member of the Mental Health Tribunal Service for the past two years, supporting and championing the new Mental Health Act and its underpinning principles.
Over and above promoting and supporting practice development and governance in Nursing, his current portfolio also includes strategic responsibility for areas such as child protection, infection control, food and nutrition, clinical governance issues, and patient/public involvement.
