Professor Alan Miller was unanimously elected by the Scottish Parliament as the first Chair of the newly created Scottish Human Rights Commission.
He has 25 years experience in the field of human rights - as a practising lawyer, academic and activist. In the past decade he has been engaged in capacity-building in over 20 countries throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East where he led a 3 year UN backed programme to train Iraqi judges.
He is adviser to the global Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights, chaired by Mary Robinson, which sets standards for business implementing its human rights responsibilities.
