According to provisional statistics recently released by the Department for Transport (DfT), 282 people died on Scotland’s roads in 2007, a significant drop from previous years but according Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson, speaking recently to Holyrood magazine, “282 people dying on our roads is still 282 too many”. Reducing these numbers is a key focus for the Scottish’s Government’s new 10 year road safety strategy due to be announced this autumn.

The strategy will focus on reducing casualties and deaths on Scotland’s roads with a combined emphasis on education, enforcement and engineering. Attend this one day conference and hear directly from the Scottish Government’s Transport Minister regarding the strategy and its implications for local authorities, police forces, education professionals, and all users of Scotland’s roads. The conference will also hear from a range of academics and practitioners highlighting examples of good practice from across the UK and Europe.
