John (21) is Policy and Communications Officer for Fairbridge in Scotland and studied Politics and Sociology at the University of Stirling. John has dedicated much of his life to campaigning against inequality, social exclusion and championing the rights and voice o f young people.
A youth activist at various levels, he co-founded the North Edinburgh Young People’s Forum in his home community; was elected Chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament 2007/8; sat as a Vice Convener for the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Children and Young People; and represent the United Kingdom at various international conferences and summits including the CIVICUS Youth Assembly and European Union.
Aiming to take his message to a larger audience, John entered Channel 4/E4’s Big Brother Celebrity Hijack and went on to be crowned the shows winner. Although this made his life very different, John continues to remain committed to his passions and beliefs and remains active locally and nationally including sitting as a member of the Commission on Scottish Devolution, Director of YouthLink Scotland and a Board member of the North Edinburgh Trust.
