Since December 2007 Alison has been Head of the Alcohol Misuse Team at Scottish Government, advising Ministers on alcohol policy and leading on the development of a cross-Government strategy on tackling alcohol misuse. 

She has worked as a policy adviser to Scottish Ministers since 2001, advising on issues ranging from prostitution, to GM crops, and the marine environment. Prior to joining the Scottish Executive, Alison worked for the UK Research Councils for ten years, latterly as Director of their European Office in Brussels.
