Chief Executive
sportscotland
Stewart Harris was appointed Chief Executive of sportscotland in November 2005. He had previously held the post of Director of Widening Opportunities at sportscotland. Stewart has strong sporting pedigree. He was a PE Teacher for 12 years, and has a lifelong involvement with basketball in Scotland, as a very successful club and international coach over 20 years and latterly as a Basketball Scotland Board member. Stewart has extensive experience in working with local authorities and in his previous post as Director of Widening Opportunities, he was responsible for developing the School Sport Co‑ordinator programme which subsequently developed into the Active Schools Network. The network is playing a key part in increasing physical activity levels of children in schools across Scotland and giving them a strong introduction to sport.
Stewart is currently leading SportScotland through the challenges of organisational relocation, developing a legacy for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and a new environment for sport across local authorities with the introduction of local authority outcome agreements.
