Prof Jacqueline Atkinson Print E-mail

j m atkinson.jpgProfessor Atkinson is a Chartered Psychologist currently working predominately in the area of mental health legislation and associated aspects, such as advance directives. This has lead to two recent books, Public and Private Protection: Civil Mental Health Legislation in 2006 and Advance Directives in Mental Health; Theory, Practice and Ethics in 2007. Her work on mental health law lead to appointment as advisor to the Scottish Parliament Health and Community Care Committee in 2002 in respect to the progress of the Mental Health Bill (becoming the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act.

Professor Atkinson's previous and current research focuses on psychosocial education and support for people with schizophrenia and their carers.

She has a strong interest in research ethics and was a member of a LREC in Glasgow for a number of years and currently convenes the University's Ethics Committee for Non-Clinical Research on Human Subjects.
