Louise Macdonald is Chief Executive of Young Scot, the award-winning national youth information charity for young people aged 11 – 26. Young Scot aims to support young people to make informed decisions and choices and to play an active part in their communities. With a current membership of over 340,000 young people, the charity uses a wide range of engagement tools to connect and consult with young people, online and offline.
Louise began her career as a journalist with local and national media in Scotland and the UK, before embarking on a career in communications in the statutory and voluntary sector, specialising in engagement with young people. She has served on the group which established European Voluntary Service in the UK; as Chair of Volunteers Week in Scotland and has most recently been a member of the Board of Scotland's Futures Forum project on drugs and alcohol in 2025.
She is a member of the Scottish Legacy Board for the Olympics and Commonwealth Games; a member of the Financial Services Authority Uk Steering Group on Financial Capability; Chair of her local Citizens Advice Bureau; a Fellow and UK Trustee of the RSA (Chair of the Scottish Committee from June ‘08) and an accredited practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
