Johann has been the MSP for Glasgow Pollok since 1999 and is currently a Member of the Local Government and Communities Committee, with a special interest in Single Outcome Agreements.
Johann Lamont was appointed Deputy Communities Minister in October 2004.
Elected as the MSP for Glasgow Pollok in 1997, she served as Convener of the Social Justice Committee from January 2001 until the 2003 Scottish Elections, after which she was elected Convener of the Communities Committee.
In her time as an MSP, Johann has also been a member of the following Cross Party Groups: Culture and the Media; Drug and Alcohol Misuse; Gaelic; International Development; Learning Disability; Mental Health; and Women.
Before being elected to the Scottish Parliament, Ms Lamont worked as a teacher of English and History and in education support for around 20 years.
Born in Glasgow in 1957, Johann Lamont attended Woodside Secondary School. She obtained MA (Hons) at the University of Glasgow and a Post Graduate teaching qualification at Jordanhill College of Education. She also gained a Certificate of Guidance at Strathclyde University.
