Jamie Malcolm was the first full-time nurse commissioner appointed to the Mental Welfare Commission and is now its deputy director.
He began his nursing career as a nursing assistant at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, trained there as an RMN and later trained as a general nurse at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. He has experience in forensic and acute psychiatry, has worked at the State Hospital, and was a member of the MacLean Committee on serious violent and sexual offenders.
He was closely involved in the Commission’s work on the implementation of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and is currently a member of the independent group, set up by the Government, which is carrying out a limited review of its operation.
