Timo Harrikari works currently as Research Fellow at the Department of Social Policy Studies, University of Helsinki, researching the ‘Effectiveness of supervision within conditionally sentenced young offenders in the probation service’. His research interests and the issues that he is currently teaching, both in Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki include young offenders, child protection, child welfare policy, control policy and probation work. He is also acting as a child welfare expert member in two Finnish administrative courts. Previously Dr Harrikari has worked as a senior planning officer in the Criminal Sanctions Agency, Probation officer in the Probation Service, youth leader, kindergarten teacher and care giver in child protection residential institutions. Dr Harrikari is the author of numerous articles and publications including recently in English: ‘Exploring Risk Governance in the Nordic Context. The cases of the Finnish Juvenile Crime and Child Welfare’ (2008) and ‘A New Regime of Governing Childhood? Finland as an Example’ (2006).
