Karyn McCluskey, Deputy Head, Violence Reduction Unit, Scotland
Before taking up the role of Deputy within the Violence Reduction Unit, Karyn was responsible for around 80 intelligence analysts within Strathclyde and provision of both strategic and tactical intelligence products. She compiled the original strategy document on violent crime in April 2004 with Detective Chief Superintendent John Carnochan, which led to the establishment of the unit.
Karyn has worked in intelligence within the police for 11 years in Sussex, Lancashire and in West Mercia Constabulary as head of intelligence analysis before joining Strathclyde Police as Principal Analyst four years ago. Karyn trained as a registered nurse and worked in a variety of areas within the NHS, East Africa and Her Majesties Prisons. She later trained in investigative psychology and has published work on armed robbery teams.
