Jacquie has been the Chief Executive for the Care Commission since October 2001. She began her Social Work career in 1971 in a geriatric hospital in Oxford. After a period of working as a specialist in child protection research and practice, she moved to Lambeth and worked in the Social Services Adoption and Fostering Unit. She moved to Dundee in 1986 and became Project Head of the regional child protection family centre, while continuing research and teaching in child abuse and neglect.
After managing children and families services (in Dundee), she transferred to manage older people’s services after Local Government reorganization. In 1997 she was appointed Director of Social Work for Dundee City Council, during which time she pursued her special interests in standards, services for older people, child protection, and chaired the Dundee Drug and Alcohol Action Team as well as a National advisory group which produced the guidelines for working with children and families affected by problem drug use: “Getting our Priorities Right.”
