David Hadden, MA(Cantab) MSc DIC CEng MICE FSyI Associate Director, Arup Security Consulting, London, UK
David Hadden is a Chartered Civil Engineer and leader of the counter terrorism team within Arup Security Consulting, whose work includes threat and risk assessments, resilience studies and the design of CT measures for buildings in the commercial, public and Government sectors. Prior to this specialist role he was part of a multidisciplinary building engineering group in Arup where, working with leading architects, he led the structural design of projects throughout the UK, Europe and Asia.
In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on London in the 1990s he undertook appraisals of bomb damaged buildings during which he was able to observe at first hand the effects of large vehicle bombs on building facades and structures. Since then he has been instrumental in developing Arup’s security consultancy skills and services around the globe. He has lectured on counter terrorist design and security strategy in UK, USA, Europe and Asia to a wide range of clients, designers and government representatives. On a lighter note, as a contributor on blast effects he has taken part in television programmes for the History Channel and ITV’s full scale simulation of the 1605 Gunpowder Plot.
