Dr Laurence Gruer is Director of Public Health Science with Health Scotland.
He is interested in everything to do with health improvement and health inequalities. He is the lead author of a major report to the UK Government on tobacco, alcohol and other drug use by young people and the report of the Scottish Government’s Smoking Prevention Working Group, both published in 2006.
He worked for Greater Glasgow NHS Board from 1989 to 2001 where he tackled HIV infection, drug and alcohol misuse, sexual health, homelessness and mental health.
He was awarded an OBE for services to Public Health in the 2001 New Years Honours.
