Michael joined Scottish Building Federation as Chief Executive in October 2005, having previously been Regional Managing Director of Mansell Plc.
He was educated at Kirkcaldy High School and Dundee College of Technology (now University of Abertay Dundee) where he gained a BSc in Quantity Surveying before joining Balfour Beatty, where he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor.
Michael went on to work with another major contractor before spending some time in the specialist sub-contracting sector. He joined Hall and Tawse in 1995, and was appointed to their Board in 1998, also serving as President of Scottish Building from 2003-2004.
Throughout his career he has been actively involved with both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Scottish Building Federation, together with participation in several industry focused groups.
Michael currently serves on the Scottish Government’s expert panel on energy efficiency, recommending measures to make houses and other buildings in Scotland more energy efficient.
