John has worked with Glasgow City Council since 1977, and embarked on a lifelong learning journey incorporating a plethora of diverse roles, from Apprentice Fitter, Construction Training Manager, and HR Manager to his current role as Head of Vocational Training.
Since 1995, John has been a leader in the field of Vocational Training and Education within Glasgow and was instrumental in re - establishing the Queenslie Training Division of Building Services within Glasgow City Council where he developed the first Scottish Local Authority SQA accredited construction Training School.
Whilst employed as the Training Manager within this school, John developed the concept of introducing Vocational Training to young school pupils in the 3rd and 4th years of their secondary education, incorporating this model in to the mainstream curriculum.
John was appointed as Head of Vocational Training for Glasgow City Council in 2005, and has expanded the vocational training programme to another 7 of Scotland’s Local Authorities, and extended the option choice to over 15 different occupational sectors.
He is involved within Glasgow in a variety of forums all of which are geared to providing people of all ages with the opportunity to experience vocational training/education.
