Hilary Steedman is currently Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Performance, the London School of Economics.
From 1994 to 2005 she held a full-time post at the Centre as Senior Research Fellow. Previous to that, from 1985 to 1994 she was Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
At the LSE she worked on international benchmarking of skills for the government's Skills Audit and for the Skills Task Force and on the future of low-skilled work in Europe for the European Commission. Hilary is particularly interested in the potential of apprenticeship and vocational education and training for widening participation and raising education and skill levels.
She is currently Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee in connection with their report ‘Apprenticeship: a Key Route to Skill’ (July 2007).
