Alan Stewart is a retired Police Inspector, now full-time Wildlife and Environmental Crime Officer with Tayside Police. He is the author of Wildlife Detective, published last year and has two further books on policing of wildlife crime in the pipeline.
In 2006 Alan received a Lifetime Achievement Award from WWF. In 2000 he was awarded the MBE for services to policing, and in 1999 became the first Scottish winner of the WWF Wildlife Enforcer of the Year Award.
During his earlier policing days, which began in 1966, he specialised in dealing with poaching offences, though the main part of his career entailed CID and Drug Squad work.
