Keynote Address – Chair of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills

Sir Michael Rake is Chair of BT plc and was previously Chairman of KPMG International. Sir Michael is qualified as a UK chartered accountant, a Luxembourg Reviseur D'Enterprise and a Belgian Experts-Comptable. Sir Michael has had a long career in global accounting, working in Continental Europe and the Middle East. He was actively involved in KPMG’s corporate social responsibility programs and as an advisor to government bodies and charities. His other appointments include Chairman of Business in the Community, a member of the Board of Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum and Vice President of Royal National Institute for the Blind. Sir Michael sits on the Chancellor’s Financial High Level Stakeholder Group and is a member of the DTI UK/US Taskforce on Regulation. He is also a member of the Board of the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue, a member of the CBI International Advisory Board, the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the Chartered Management Institute, the Advisory Council for Business for New Europe and the Advisory Board of the Judge Institute at the University of Cambridge. He was knighted for his services to accounting in 2007.
