Quinton Vance is heading the KIPP NYC elementary school expansion efforts.
KIPP NYC is planning to open four elementary schools to serve our existing four middle schools – one in the South Bronx, two in Harlem, and one in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Prior to his current role, Vance was the principal of KIPP Academy for six years, where he facilitated the day-to-day school operations. As principal, his primary duties included curriculum support, discipline, scheduling, and family outreach. Under his leadership, KIPP Academy was the highest-performing public middle school in the Bronx in terms of math scores, reading scores and attendance, and since 2003 it has ranked among the top 10% of all New York City public schools. In 2004, KIPP Academy was one of 20 schools nationwide to earn a 21st Century Schools of Distinction Award from Scholastic, Intel, and the Blue Ribbon Foundation. Prior to becoming principal, Vance taught 5th and 6th grade English Language Arts at KIPP Academy and taught in the Newark public school district for three years. Quinton received his B.A. from the University of Oregon and his Masters from St. Peter’s College.
