John Brown, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, has over 35 years experience in local government, public relations and the media. Currently, he works as an independent public relations and communications consultant.
For over 8 years, John was Head of Public Relations and Marketing for Glasgow City Council (1996-March 2004), and prior to that Head of Public Relations for Strathclyde Regional Council (1993-96).
John has extensive experience in handling the media in Scotland – proactively, reactively and during a crisis. He was the main adviser on media relations and main spokesperson for the City Council and the Regional Council. Prior to that, Brown worked as a journalist for Scottish Television on news, social affairs, consumer and political programmes. The bid was unsuccessful and John worked for several months as a part-time senior public relations consultant for Hill & Knowlton before setting up in l992 Lomond Television, an independent production company in Glasgow for the Guardian Media Group.
