Mary Pitcaithly OBE has been Chief Executive of Falkirk Council since 1998.
After studying law at Edinburgh University, she then worked in private practice before joining the public sector in 1980, being appointed to the post of Assistant Chief Executive within the new unitary Falkirk Council upon local government reorganisation in 1995.
As Head of Paid Service for the Council, Mary leads a workforce of around 7500, serving a population of 149,000 and has responsibility for a budget of c£1/4bn. She chairs Falkirk Council’s Community Planning Management Group and its Emergency Planning Executive Group and has responsibility for leading the Council’s response to any major incidents. She is Vice-Chair of SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) Scotland and sits on the Scottish Emergencies Co-ordinating Committee.
