Trevor Muir left school at 16 with few qualifications. He spent several years working as a van driver, salesperson and barperson, but returned to Further Education at Langside College, Glasgow, and Strathclyde University, where he gained a B.A. in Business Administration. He also holds the Diploma in Housing, gained with U.K. distinction.
After University he worked with SSHA, Glasgow and Aberdeen Councils, coming to the Lothians in 1987 as Chief Executive of Midlothian District Council, and was made Chief Executive of the new unitary Midlothian Council in 1995. He is Scotland’s longest serving Council Chief Executive, “but not the oldest”.
He is Chair of the Association of Local Authorities Chief Executives – ALACE – Scotland.
