Paul Brown has been Principal Solicitor/CEO Legal Services Agency since 1989. His interests have been wide ranging including Housing Law (defended eviction and homelessness), Child Law, some Reparation and Criminal Injuries Compensation Applications particularly upon behalf of very vulnerable clients (including children). He has a commitment to Community Legal Education: LSA now organises over 100 events a year and he speaks at quite a few of them!
LSA has grown to have nearly 40 staff working in four offices in three Cities. LSA aims to tackle unmet legal needs of those in disadvantage particularly female asylum seekers and their families, those with mental health problems or dementia or their carers, those in housing difficulty and indeed all those excluded from mainstream society for any reason including poverty or disability.
Paul has variously been a Curator ad Litem (Children’s Hearings Referrals) Glasgow Sheriff Court, a Children’s Hearing Panel Member: a Scottish Legal Aid Board Reporter: Tutor Glasgow Graduate School of Law: and now a Law Society of Scotland Quality Assurance Peer Reviewer.
He thinks that legal rights are fundamental as it is only with justice that peace can be obtained. He describes his work as being an attempt to bring “a human face to human rights”. His most accurate political alignment is the slow food movement: open to all, sustainable, enjoyable and well done! He is involved with a number of charities including Glasgow Steiner School and the Greek Thomson 60 Steps Trust.
