There are two parts to the RSS system:

1. The user needs to have an 'RSS reader' (sometimes called an aggregator). This is a program which collects the raw XML news feeds from websites that are RSS-compatible and turns them into text and links that a user can browse at his or her leisure.

2. The website must have a feed specially set up to work with the news reader. Most big news websites now have such systems - and the links are highlightedrss20.gif with the orange 'RSS' boxes as seen on the left hand side of the holyrood.com webpages, the RSS box will look something like this -

You can find suitable software on Google.

Once installed, follow the program's instructions to get your RSS feeds up and running.

Most packages are very simple and all you will need to do is add the RSS URLs as new feeds.

holyrood.com offers a number RSS feeds which will enable you to stay up-to-date with Scottish public affairs: To use just select the feed from the webpage you wish to keep updated with.
