Phil Matthews joined the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) in January 2007 as their Senior Policy Advisor in Scotland. The Commission in Scotland is responsible for the independent scrutiny of the Scottish Government’s performance on sustainable development, with their first annual report on progress in implementing the Scottish Sustainable Development Strategy published in summer 2007. The Scottish team also contribute to the wider UK work of the Commission.
Phil is on a two year secondment to the Commission from CAG Consultants where he is a Director, leading much of CAG’s work on climate change mitigation and adaptation and in the integration of sustainability into government. Prior to his time with CAG Phil worked on sustainable development in the UK and overseas with a variety of public, private and voluntary sector organisations. He holds an Honours degree in Geography from Edinburgh University and a Masters (with Distinction) in Environmental Change and Management from Oxford University.
