
Edith has worked in the social services sector since qualifying as a social worker in 1985. Her experience at practitioner and management levels spanned voluntary and local authority settings, predominantly in City of Edinburgh Council and included a period as adviser to the lead elected member for social work services.
Edith joined the Scottish Social Services Council in early 2003 as a learning and development adviser and spent time on secondment to the Scottish Executive as a social work adviser to the Changing Lives 21st Century Review of Social Work. She returned to the SSSC in June 2005 to assume her current position as Workforce Development Manager with responsibility for leading work on all aspects of workforce intelligence, planning and development. This includes management of the Scottish dimension of the work of the SSSC as part of the UK-wide sector skills council, Skills for Care and Development. The Workforce Development Team has a wide remit to support the social services sector in building the capacity and skills levels of the workforce and to plan effectively to meet future demand for high quality services.
