Stephen is Chief Executive of the Sustainable Development Research Centre (SDRC) an Associate Institute of UHI Millennium Institute. He is responsible for the development of public and private sector partnerships to enhance the research and knowledge transfer activities of the Centre.

Prior to his current position he worked for an Electronics manufacturing company and spent the past five years helping to grow the company, installing business systems and developing strong business partnerships. Prior to this position he spent many years in the Oil industry with companies such as Shell, Unocal and Elf. He has gained business development experience in countries such as Africa, Norway, Spain and Holland.
